please donate

I wanted to explain what I needed donations for so you might understand what I want the money for.

One item that I need is a backpack for my respirator. This is a specially made carrying case for my respirator (with all the openings in the right places for hoses and power cords). It would provide padding and protection for my respirator from the elements when Im outside or just in a crowd of people. This backpack costs $290.

The biggest item on the list is a 10kg bucket of L-Alanine. L-Alanine is an amino acid that helps with the breakdown of glycogen on the liver. The specialist on my condition recommends that we take a certain amount extra of this amino acid daily. It's experimental (no conclusive studies have been done on the benefits of this amino acid on those with my condition, mostly due to the fact that it is so rare) and so insurance companies and social services refuse to pay for it. It's not a drug either so it's classed as a nutritional supplement. In any case, the company that manufactures the amino acid will only sell it in 10 kg quantities instead of 1 kg like they used to. 10 kg will last for a while but it also cost $753 dollars.

My parents can cover some of the costs of having me live with them and costs that social services won't cover. For example when I got new glasses, my dad's insurance paid for some of it, and my parents covered the rest of the cost. We had my indoor lift serviced recently and it cost almost $200 that they had to cover. When I moved home from the hospital we needed to get a shower chair, which cost $250. My point here is that there always seem to be costs on top of costs when you are disabled. Some of it we can get covered by social services or insurance but there are still things that they have to pay for themselves. It is a burden on them and it makes me feel bad for laying this burden on them. It's a time in their life when they should be free of their children living at home and financial responsibilities from that. This is why I ask you to donate money, to take some of the pressure off of my family and me.
