something to ponder, but not at night in the dark

I'm reading a book by John Sandford (he writes crime/detective/thriller type books) and the criminal in this book is an artist. One of the kinks of this man is to take photographs of women without them knowing and putting them on the computer, then he lifts the face from the photo and puts it on a naked body. After that he projects the doctored photograph so he can trace and draw it, however, he ads his own little violent twists to the drawing so it's basically custom made psychopathic porn. It reminded me of a Law and Order: SVU episode I saw where this company was using software to make girls look younger. Instead of aging people forward, like police do when looking of a suspect or missing person after some years, these people were aging them backward, to before puberty basically. They were making digital child pornography.

These two ideas got me thinking about what people can do with pictures without you even knowing it. In the first case the guy was taking pictures of women with his camera and they weren't even aware of it and in the second case, well I find child pornography, made with a computer or not, very disturbing. I know when we first got our scanner (which doesn't work anymore due to it being obsolete) we fooled around with our pictures a little bit, changing colors, smudging out imperfections, etc... It scares me to think what people with professional equipment and training can do with any photograph that's on any computer. I'm not exactly sure where Im going with this, but I will say that I hadn't really thought about the things that a criminally minded person could do with just a picture. It's something to think about.

Please go and rate my cats!
