worlds

there are all these little worlds everywhere. families, insitutions, businesses. for example, airports, hospitals, hotels, washington politics. i think it would be cool to be part of a large, but closed off world like that. not politics though, i hate politics. drives me crazy. besides, as a canadian, our poltics are strange and kind of blah.

i've lived in a hospital for a year, but you can't really be part of things as a patient. though you hear the secrets. for those who don't know, nurses run the hospital. always be nice to the nurses, they can make or break you. they will be the ones taking care of you. if you see the doctor once a day you are lucky.

there was an author, arthur hailey, who used (maybe still does, i don't know) write about those sort of little worlds. i read about 3 of his books, one about an airport, one about a hotel and one about a power station. it was an interesting glimse into how things work in those places. though he had a weird romantic bent. everyone was having an affair with everyone else, i got to hate the main characters. plus his books are from the early 80s.

in any case. the worlds run our lives. we put our lives in their hands and hope they will do everything right. it's kind of spooky if you think about it. no idea how they run, who is running them, but they go on and we use them.
